Cakes For Dreaming

Cakes for dreaming

Surprise, we love cake.

One type of cake we really love are the cakes we do for wedding shows. Why? Because we get to challenge ourselves to do something we really love, and at the same time make sure it is something that you will love too. It doesn’t hurt that we also then get to spend the day hanging out with some of our wedding vendor mates and a bunch of blushing brides and grooms in the throes of planning.

Cossars – Your Big Day

If you have been to Cossars you will know that it is a venue without compare. Somehow Sophie and the team have managed to create a venue that oozes elegance and charm while still feeling quaint and intimate. Also the furniture, Sophie has the admirable patience that results in finding unique one off antique pieces which sit studded through out the barn, courtyard and restaurant.

We based our concept on what you would see at a real wedding. A three tier cake surrounded by a dessert bar.

The cake – A navy bottom tier with two tiers of crisp white.

The dessert- A selection of petit fours, cupcakes and donuts

With this Ring

With this Ring takes place annually at Wigrams’ Air Force Museum. This past year we teamed up with some of our favourite gal pals to make a 12m wide display (the logistics created so many headaches), The Little Hire Company, CM Photography and Charmed Flowers.

There is nothing more inspiring than a blank slate and three inspiring women. We decided on a theme of blush, navy and mustard with a relaxed casual feel.

For our main display cake we made a three tier cake in pink, of course, with an embossed gold detail down the side. Flowers in mustards and whites from Charmed Flowers finished it off.

The Great Bridal Show

The Great Bridal Show was the first show that we ever went to!  As such it always holds a special wee place in our hearts.

This show is at the end of our traditional summer wedding season so we are all pumped on the highs of the cakes we have just done and have a little more free time than usual.

Our display was greys, golds, silvers and blacks with a ‘crap tonne’ of colourful flowers. It’s such a perfect colour palette for weddings and parties that it’s hard to go by.

In this picture you can see the show favourite cake. A two tier with the bottom grey watercolour, the top semi naked, a white drip, and mini dahlias and fresh figs.

Trents

Adorable ponds with wooden rowboats, meadows of wildflowers, original brick work walls, tiny nooks nestled in among the trees. There is a reason that Trents is highly rated as one of Christchurch’s best venues.

It was awkward timing for us as the show was in peak wedding season this year, our display was a small collection of cakes with some of our favourite themes. A two tier semi naked with chocolate, lush blooms, and gold leaf. Dark chocolate ganache with gold, semi naked with caramel and pink water colour
